Welcome to the Christchurch Nursing Bureau, the South Island’s leading independent provider of in-home caregivers and nurses.

We have qualified, experienced staff available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Whether it’s an elderly parent or a family member requiring palliative treatment, our compassionate, knowledgeable staff will manage the practical side of their in-home care, freeing you to be the daughter, son, partner, or friend, that your loved one needs you to be.

In an ideal, world we would all have ample time to fulfil the physical and emotional needs of older and infirm family members. For many of us, however, work commitments, along with family, sporting, and cultural obligations, mean that we are stretched to capacity. This is no reflection on who we are as people, it is simply a natural consequence of the times we are living in.

Locally owned and operated for over 60 years, the Christchurch Nursing Bureau provides nursing and caregiving staff for private home help alongside their aged care facility work, and we have caring, experienced staff ready to assist you and your family at any time of the day or night.

We take care of our staff so they can take care of you.

All of our employees are thoroughly screened and are hired subject to interviews, suitable references and a police check. You can also rest assured that our caregivers and nursing staff have up-to-date and practicing certificates, receive regular training and upskilling, and are offered competitive remuneration.

We genuinely value our staff, and subsequently, they stay with us for a long time. Not only does this reduce our recruiting and training costs, but it also means that we are able to offer genuine continuity of care for vulnerable patients.

About Us

Founded in 1966 by two stay-at-home mums, the Christchurch Nursing Bureau was the first organisation of its kind in Canterbury and was eventually taken over by Lesley Wyber in 1980.

Lesley’s mantra was, “look after and value your staff and they will look after business”, and under her expert management, the Bureau gained a reputation for producing and supporting exceptionally well-trained nurses and caregivers.

Sadly, Lesley passed away in April 2008, but long-time Staff Co-ordinator Trish Jordan, who has recently purchased the business, is determined to keep her legacy alive, “She was such a vibrant, beautiful lady, and was so passionate about the Bureau”.

Trish feels strongly that our senior citizens should be treated with care, kindness, patience, respect, and understanding. “They have such a wealth of knowledge and experience that we can all learn from. Once arriving at that stage of life, it’s our time to give back.”

Having cared for elderly relatives herself, Trish also has a deep respect for the families who invite her employees into their home to administer end-of- life care, and considers it an honour and a privilege to be able to help families through what can be a difficult and emotional journey.
